Reclaim: By Kate Peters

Exploring the idea of alternative beauty and power, Kate has been photographing breast cancer survivors who have transformed their scars with tattoos.

This is a powerful act of reclaiming their bodies from the disease and strengthening their personal identity. After months or years living with their body as a battleground, women can experience a painful struggle to reconnect with their altered bodies and sense of self. Whether they choose to reconstruct or not, women of all ages are getting chest tattoos, giving them renewed body confidence and helping them to draw a line between their past and their future.

Kate created this series with Art Director, CR columnist and Photography Annual judge, Gem Fletcher.
