Mycelium by Sun Lee

Using saturated, colliding colour to strip away the familiar, this body of work sits at the edge of the botanical and the alien, forcing longer contemplation of something most would ordinarily dismiss.

Something that is unexpected becomes visible – a sense that these organisms exist on their own terms, structures that resemble coral, brain tissue or folded fabric, but exist outside our categories, older than anything we have built or imagined.

Shot for Vollebak as part of a project creating clothes from mycelium, the hidden root system of fungi.
