Morning Lament by Sam Barker

Sam Barker’s Morning Lament is a photographic series exploring the interplay of faith, devotion, and shared lives. Inspired by an apartment he rented in Bologna, the project draws upon the space’s love-worn furniture, personal keepsakes, and echoes of past occupants to shape the atmosphere of each image. An elderly man moves through his daily routines, while a veiled woman imposes her presence, suggesting a lingering bond between past and present. Their interactions form a visual meditation on the passage of time, the connection between the living and the dead, and the enduring spirit of Bologna.
