Introducing Extinct & Endangered – Insects in Peril, by Levon Biss

After 2 years of shooting, in this project Levon highlights 40 specimens from the collection of the American Museum of Natural History that are either threatened or are already gone from this planet forever, primarily due to human influence.

The aim of Extinct & Endangered is to increase awareness of global insect decline and biodiversity loss, using the photographs to encourage conversation about the current insect crisis. The insects on display are in peril for various reasons, but primary factors are habitat loss, pesticide use and climate change.

Extinct & Endangered will open at the American Museum of Natural History on 22nd June 2022. It will be accompanied by a website launched on the same day and a book to be published by Abrams in October.
